On Sunday, September 6, 2020, Erica Nlewedim a contestant in the Big Brother Naija Season 5 Lockdown Edition was disqualified. It was a similar event to what happened in the previous edition where Tacha experienced the same thing.
Erica, the 26-year-old Abia-born was the first sitting Head of House evicted from the show. Though her position was expected to provide immunity from leaving the house this week. She had received several warnings from Biggies after flaunting some house rules. But she went beyond the point of redemption after she had a row with Laycon during the Saturday night house party hosted by DJ Kaywise.
Erica confronted Laycon and threatened to attack him when they get out of Biggie’s house. If Laycon had not kept calm, the matter would have gotten worse. She said Laycon was using her to trend. Beyond that, she fumed because Laycon was unable to prove to Ebuka that she tried to kiss him.
However, it should be noted that her removal from the show does not solely hinge on what transpired between her and Laycon. Below are some of the BBNaija rules Erica Violated:
- Erica threatened to kill Laycon outside the house.
- She spilt water on the Head of House (HoH) bed intending to stop Prince, her deputy from sharing the lounge with her.
- Erica hits the Diary room’s bell last night requesting to leave
- She used the word ‘vote’ while discussing with Kiddwaya. She had said she hoped that the viewers’ votes out Laycon because he is manipulative.
The last offence contravenes Biggie’s rules which stipulates that both Head of House and their deputies must sleep on the same bed for the week.
Also, She threatened to kill Laycon and do anything in her power to make sure he suffers in life. This is against the house rules which state that “housemates should never threaten, intimidate or act violently towards each other.”
Using the word ‘vote’ is against the warning issued by Biggie last week which states that housemates must not canvass for votes in the house. Erica was disqualified for those acts but she, however, admitted that she was ready for any consequence.
A few hours after she was disqualified, she was gifted with a brand new car and 2 million naira. In addition to that, Erica fans who call themselves ‘Elites’ opened a Go Fund Me account to raise $100,000 for her. At the time of writing this article more than $5,000 has been raised already.
