Adekunle Gold has made a name for himself in the music industry. His name has become a household name. He is one of the hottest artists in Nigeria and even in Africa. Gold was born on the 28th of May, 1987.
His real name is Omooba Adekunle Kosoko. He added Gold to his name after a church sermon, he said the inspiration to add the name came from the pastor’s sermon.
This famous artist started his unprofessional music career and composed his first song at age 15 when he was a member of the teenage choir in his church. His music career was influenced by the likes of Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey.
He was a member of a boy band called “The Bridge”, a group he formed with his friend, Seyikeys, in 2010. The band released the following songs; “No sleeping on bicycle’ Norm Breaker’ and ‘All of Me’ (John Legend’s cover). Norm Breaker is a song about Peace for the nation, however, the song didn’t gain the needed attention because of poor promotion.
In 2013, Gold left The Bridge to begin his professional music career. In the year 2014, he released a hit single ‘Sade’, and the song was well accepted. Adekunle caught the attention of the YBNL boss, Olamide Badoo, although Gold said he was already working as a freelance graphics designer for YBNL and he claimed to be the brain behind the label’s logos and the artworks of some of the label signed artists. Let’s not forget that Adekunle was dubbed the king of Photoshop.
On the 5th of March 2015, Olamide signed him into the YBNL record label under which he released his debut studio album GOLD. Adekunle Gold came into limelight after the deal and he released another hit single ORENTE. Orente is a romance song about the beauty of an Africa queen which many believed Simisola, his wife. Towards the end of 2015, Adekunle released ‘Pick Up’, the song became a kind of street anthem.
In July 2016, his album ‘Gold’ turned out to be a grand success. The album hit number 7 on the billboard just after a week of its release. The Gold album has 15 tracks. Some of the tracks are ‘Friend Zone’, ‘Call on Me’, ‘No Forget ft Simi’, ‘Beautiful Night’, ‘Ariwo Ko’, ‘Only Girl ft Moelogo’, and others.
When his contract with YBNL expired, he went to set up his own record label ’79th Element’. He has won many awards such as Best New Act to watch at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Album of the year at the City People Music Award for Best song for pick up and many others. He was made a brand ambassador for Unity bank on the 15th of January 2018.
He is married to a music goddess, Simisola. Recently, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Adejare.
