Big Brother Naija Season 5; Meet Laycon

Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe

Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe is a 26-year-old singer and rapper from Lagos State. He is a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos, where he bagged second class upper degree. He is from a polygamous family and he is the last born of the family; unfortunately, he has lost his father.

Laycon, as he prefers to be called, started his music career at an early age and has now emerged as one of Nigeria’s most promising new school artists. He knew he had a thing for singing and he took it seriously. He had one of his songs in MTV Base top ten charts for about six months.

While he was in the university, Laycon created cover for a lot of Nigerian songs. In 2016, he released a 17 tracks album and got signed on a record label in 2019. He also featured Chinko Ekun and Reminence in one of his songs, and it is making waves for him.

There have been reports flying around that Laycon graduated with a first-class degree, and that he was the best graduating student of his set. However, some findings have proved this to be false. He did well when he was in the university, but was not the best graduating student, neither did he graduate with a first-class degree. He was among the over twenty students in his set that bagged second class degree, upper-division.

Laycon is one of the most liked housemates at the moment, but it didn’t start that way. His appearance gave him away on the first day of the show as he was not rated by the audience and some of the housemates. During the introductory season, Trickytee, one of the housemates was heard saying that Laycon does not have the presence because no one cared to listen to him.

However, things started turning around on the first night of the show when he wooed the housemates with some lines from his recently released EP, “Who is Laycon”. Some artists, like JoeBoy, Reminisce and Chocolate City record label used their large social presence to draw support for him. This led to a great increase in his IG followers, as it grew from less than 40,000 to 100,000. Judging from the love and admiration he gets from fans, it won’t be out of place to say that he is one of those who stand a chance of winning the show in the house.

Laycon describes himself as being versatile and able to coin words together to soothe scenarios and moods. His words to live by are, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” His new habit during the lockdown was singing and reading his Bible. His greatest achievement was, having his song, ‘Fierce’ on MTV Base top ten charts for six months. He wants to be one of the most prominent artists in Africa.
